E77 | Ask Doc Danny: How To Be A Successful Student
Episode 77 Ask Doc Danny
How Can I Set Myself Up To Succeed as a Student?
Episode at a Glance
Episode 77 is another Friday short where we sit down to answer questions that you, our awesome listeners, have submitted via an iTunes review. This weeks question comes from Chris8171. Chris is an aspiring sports medicine student and wants to know what are some things can be doing as student to set himself up for success in the future.
Doc Danny answers with a killer template that really applies to being successful at anything, whether it be coaching, practicing medicine or business.
#1 Read Books: For the aspiring PT and every coach these are some damn near mandatory reading: Becoming A Supple Leopard Vol. 2 for home exercises, Freestyle Connection, Power Speed & Endurance, Movement by Greg Cook, Anatomy Trains.
#2. Go to professional development courses: For the aspiring PT it would be things like Functional Movement Screening, MobilityWOD Course, PRI Courses, SFMA.
#3. Train: If you want to be the tip of the spear in the movement community you have to train. You should regularly be teaching yourself how to do new skills. In the Physio/Coach world no one respects a coach that isn’t healthy or able to move.
If you are in the business space this means learning more about business and how to be successful at it.
#4. Listen: to audiobooks, podcasts..etc..to gain knowledge and be aware of the conversations that are going on within the space that you are aspiring to work in
#5. Find A Mentor: Find someone who is a master at what you want to do and the shadow them. They will push you farther than you can ever push yourself and you will gain skills that you would never acquire inside of a classroom.
