Episode 81 of the Doc & Jock podcast features our dear friend Rob Wilson.  Rob Wilson (@preparetoperform) is a Mobility WOD instructor, soft tissue specialist, strength coach, teacher, and walking human performance test tube.  Rob prides himself on constantly researching and implementing tried and true techniques as well as fresh paradigms for maximizing sports performance and life.  He also owns and operates CrossFit Virginia Beach (@crossfitvirginiabeach) with his wife Thomi.

In addition to all of the madness Rob is involved with he also works with our good buddy Phil Sabatini doing some seminars on Olympic Lifting. Phil handles the technique side of the lifts and Rob teaches mobility for the lifts. Since we just had Phil on to talk about strengthening the lower back we thought it would be apropos to have Rob on to talk about properly organizing & mobilizing the lower back for lifting.

Rob specifically talks about how to fix s the dreaded pelvic reversal (a.k.a. the pooping dog) when a lifter is in the bottom of their overhead squat and offers some tips on how to shore up this issue which are below.

  1. Get a bracing sequence
  2. Make sure the knees are driving out (fix the movement pattern)
  3. Find the spot where the depth was good
