E94 | Dr. Quinn Henoch
On Episode 94 of the Doc & Jock Podcast we sit down with physio coach & American Open qualifying lifter Quinn Henoch.
Doc Quinn Henoch earned his DPT from the University of Indianapolis and is head of sports rehabilitation for JuggernautHQ in Orange County, CA. He is also the founder of ClinicalAthlete, which is a network of health care professionals who understand the performance-based needs of athletes. Quinn played football at the Div 1-AA level at Valparaiso University as a defensive back. Since 2011, he has trained exclusively for the sport of weightlifting, having competed in the 2014 American Open and posting qualifying totals for the 2015 National Championships, as a 77kg lifter. He has also competed in track and field, Crossfit, and powerlifting.
Our conversation with Quinn kicks off with a lesson on HUSTLE. We learn how Quinn used lessons learned from walking on as D1-AA Football to get himself set-up as PT and start his web site ClinicalAthlete.com.
From there we shift into a conversation about how to find the best PT for you. Most PT’s are generalist, they are qualified to treat a wide range of problems, but that doesn’t mean they are the best person for your specific problem. If the PT doesn’t have a background in coaching/participating the sport you go injured in there is a good chance they aren’t going to no how to treat it and that is the inspiration behind Doc Quinn’s site Clinical Athlete.
In addition to his practice as PT Quinn also is pretty damn good weightlifter. In fact he qualified for the American Open as a 77kg lifter in 2014. We learn why Quinn loves the lifts and how it translates to his practice.
The last 30 minutes of the episode is spent talking about Doc Henoch’s methods for helping people move and perform better. Quinn has ruffled a few feathers in the past with his opinions on butt winking, knees out and more, so it’s pretty epic that we can get into his head and hear where he is coming from. He gives us some pretty strong ideas on how to self assess mobility issues and then gives us some good ideas for correctives.
