E98 | Charlie Weingroff
In Episode 98 of the Doc & Jock Podcast we talk to Charlie Weingroff about coaches and practitioners staying in their own lanes and Charlie’s system for determining if someone should be lifting or at the PT clinic.
Before we get into the episode run down just a note that the audio on this episode is sketchy at best. Sorry for that. Sometimes people’s internet connections are bad. That being said this interview is full of HOT TAKES and opinions that will make you “no he didn’t,” so it’s totally worth the occasional digital clipping to hear this.
Ok now that we got that out of the way…here is the rundown on Episode 98:
This week we interview Charlie Weingroff. Charlie is a strength coach, PT, power lifter and has been a player in the strength and rehabilitation game for a long time. He has worked with everyone from Marine Special Ops Command to the Philadelphia 76ers, and is currently serving as the strength and conditioning coach for the Canadian Men’s Olympic Basketball team. He also has a close personal training relationship with Bill Crawford, who is arguably the greatest bench presser that ever lived. Additionally over the years Charlie has released some influential DVD’s on how to training is rehab and rehab is training.
Ok so now that you know about Charlie let’s talk about what’s in this episode…
The coaches that made Charlie Weingroff the physiocoach he is today.
What would Charlie do to fix global movement problems?
How does the hybrid coach/practitioner role fit into the strength & conditioning world?
Charlie’s system of communication for practitioners and strength coaches.
Are KB’s a useful tool for getting strong or are they purely just a conditioning piece?
What does Charlie think of CrossFit?

Shoe Cue –Serious Athletes have proper running mechanics. Train like a serious athlete. Use the ShoeCueTextured Insole. www.shoecue.com
Our feet initiate and control almost every single movement we make. Despite this, we ignore their importance every time we put on shoes. The nerves in our feet require texture, vibration, or sheering force to register important sensory feedback. Any normal shoe or insole cuts off this connection by separating our feet from the earth. We don’t FEEL our connection to the ground any more.
Enter the ShoeCue. The Cue uses a patent-pending, textured, thermoplastic heel-plate that reconnects your feet to the ground. With vibration and texture, it wakes up the soles of your feet and reconnects them to your brain. Closing this neural loop allows for enhanced control and understanding of how we are connected to the world. In real-time we improve self awareness and proprioception.
